Things between Rolando Romero and Oscar De La Hoya have been quite bumpy recently. Both of them have been looking for opportunities to take shots at each other. However, after Romero lost against Isaac Cruz, De La Hoya has been relentlessly trolling him. Their recent beef started after Ryan Garcia and Romero were in talks about making a fight happen in April.
However, later, Romero decided to instead fight Cruz and even ridiculed De La Hoya on his social media. Subsequently, Romero’s decision has backfired since he lost against Cruz and is no longer the WBA lightweight champion. Rolly was also badly battered throughout the fight which led to a stoppage in the eighth round.
Rollys! You dumba**! Getting knocked out. Focus on your opponents instead of focusing on me. God damn it.Oscar De La Hoya on X
In the video, De La Hoya criticized Romero for his loss and urged him to focus on his opponents instead of him. De La Hoya also asked other fighters to learn from Rolly’s mistakes. The promoter also proclaimed that there are only three big promoters in the world and included himself in that list.
Before the fight, some journalists showed Rolando Romero a video of De La Hoya imitating his boxing style. In response, Rolly showed a video of him imitating the promoter. In the video, Romero referred to doing cocaine. Hence, this was what possibly prompted De La Hoya to ask Romero to focus on his opponents.
Rolando Romero speaks about loss
After his devastating TKO loss against Isaac Cruz, Romero took to Instagram to speak about his loss. Rolly congratulated his opponent for his performance and for achieving his dream of becoming a world champion. The former champion also addressed how every time he enters the ring, he knows that he risks his own life.
In addition, Romero wanted to display his heart as a fighter and believed that he did so even though he lost. Rolly also brought up how he never dropped to the canvas and never got knocked out of the fight. Subsequently, the boxer mentioned that the referee had to save him from himself because he was fearless.
The boxer also appreciated all the love and support he had received after the fight. Furthermore, during the post-fight interview, he did mention that he intends to come back stronger to the ring. His promoter, Floyd Mayweather also had words of encouragement for the boxer, but that didn’t stop fans from speculating a strained professional relationship between the two. Some even went as far as hinting at Mayweather dropping Rolly after his loss.
