Oscar De La Hoya‘s last world championship win remains the best KO of his Hall of Fame career. His last title fight win over Ricardo Mayorga capitalized on the beef between them. The bout minted a huge amount in revenues from the PPV buys. Mayorga victimized Oscar with his deadly verbal insults regarding the excessive trash talk in the feud.
Mayorga had demonstrated his combat prowess by defeating notable opponents such as Vernon Forrest and Andrew “Six Heads.” He called Hoya a “faggot,” “faker” and a “quitter.” It was evident that Mayorga tried to intimidate Oscar and even made things personal. Furthermore, in one of the most memorable promotions in boxing history, Mayorga spoke about Oscar’s wife and the Latino people. Hoya responded by saying, “You disrespected the two things I love…This isn’t a game. I’m going to knock you out.”
Meticulously groomed, in peak physical condition, and laser-focused, Hoya knocked Mayorga to the canvas early in the first round, making his intentions clear. Subsequently, Mayorga’s face appeared shocked as he faced his retribution. Oscar did not lose a single round in this fight and knocked out the Mayora in the sixth round.
De La Hoya greeted Mayora with a 20-successive-rapid-punch combo, causing the referee to stop the match in the 6th round. Hoya gave a brutal beatdown to Mayora and it became one of the most iconic “f*ck around and find out” moments. Boxing fans relished the moment and later named the fight as the “Danger Zone.”
Oscar De La Hoya gives his opinion about Canelo Alvarez vs. Terence Crawford

Oscar De La Hoya has recently expressed his opinion on the possibility of Terence Crawford versus Canelo Alvarez. The former IBF Light middleweight champion believes that “Bud” would be victorious over Alvarez, even though Alvarez has competed in three weight classes.
In an interview with EsNews, Hoya said that people assume the bigger fighter will win, but the skillful one does. Furthermore, because of their size difference, many believe Canelo Alvarez has a significant advantage at 168 pounds over Crawford. Furthermore, he said, “Crawford doesn’t rely on his power, he relies on his IQ. Crawford is such a smart fighter, he’s like Bruce Lee, literally… If that fight ever happens, I have to go with Crawford”
Hence, he claimed that Crawford’s superior mental game and speed gave him an advantage over Alvarez and that Alvarez’s size wouldn’t be an issue. It came as a surprise as he did not pick Alvarez to emerge victorious. Clearly, there must be some behind-the-scenes beef between Oscar and Canelo.
