The crossover boxing exhibition fight between Tyson Fury and Francis Ngannou will happen on October 28 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The fight will serve as Ngannou’s professional boxing debut, and Fury’s WBC belt will not be at stake. However, Fury’s reputation and a potential heavyweight unification fight with Oleksandr Usyk will be at stake during this bout. Fury and Usyk were supposed to fight, but talks ended this year after several months of negotiations.

Furthermore, the fighters could not agree on the contract, which swiftly ended the negotiations for the fight. However, discussions about the fight have again emerged, and they have decided to hold the heavyweight unification bout in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Boxing promoter Bob Arum recently revealed that the fight between Tyson Fury and Usyk might happen as early as December 23. Subsequently, the fight depends on the outcome of the Fury vs. Ngannou fight, which will occur eight weeks before. Furthermore, Arum stated, “If Fury emerges with no hand problems, no cuts, and so forth, it’ll be earlier rather than later.”

Hence, the date for the unification bout will solely depend on Fury’s condition and his victory after fighting Ngannou. The General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia’s chairman, Turki Alalshikh, stated that he wanted the fight to happen in the winter or before Ramadan.

Furthermore, before this announcement, Fury had explicitly stated that he wasn’t interested in fighting Usyk in a unification bout. However, Fury’s father, John Fury, stated that his son’s mood changed like the weather and should not be taken seriously.

Francis Ngannou claims that Tyson Fury won’t be able to fight Oleksandr Usyk

Usyk holds the WBO, WBA, and IBF belts, which he secured from former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in 2021. Subsequently, Fury holds the WBC belt he secured from former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder. Furthermore, boxing as a sport has not had a unified heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis became one in 1999.

Hence, this unification bout has a lot of significance, and fans have been looking forward to it for a long time. Fury’s promoter, Arum, revealed that Fury will secure a purse of $100 million from the fight and will not negotiate. However, Ngannou has boldly stated that Fury will not be able to fight Usyk in December.

Furthermore, the UFC knows Ngannou as the hardest-punching heavyweight, and opponents must reckon with the force of his punches. Former legendary heavyweight champion Mike Tyson also believed Ngannou would win if he could land some solid punches. Nevertheless, Ngannou aims to ensure Fury is compromised and cannot fight in December.
