Ryan Garcia has recently announced that he has signed a contract to make his return to the ring on April 20th against undefeated champion, Devin Haney. Furthermore, the fight finally materialized after a lot of back-and-forth and several failed negotiations with other fighters. As such, Garcia will be fighting for the first time since December, when he stopped Oscar Duarte with a stunning KO victory.
His fight against Duarte was his comeback fight after his first professional loss against Gervonta Davis. Subsequently, Garcia and Davis fought in April 2023 in Las Vegas, and it was the biggest PPV event of the year. Despite some early momentum from Garcia in the first round, Davis dominated the rest of the fight. Recently, in an interview with Jack Alter, he spoke about his fight with Davis and stated:
He cannot hit hard, I’m telling you. It’s his accuracy. The punches that you don’t see are the ones that hurt you.Ryan Garcia via Jack Alter
Even though Davis is a lightweight boxer, he is known for his powerful punches, and his record of 29-0 with 27 KOs justifies this claim. However, Garcia believes that Davis is not a powerful puncher and attributes his victories to his accuracy. Furthermore, Garcia even called Davis a sniper because of his precise punches, which secured his KO victories.
Hence, Garcia dismissed his punching power but still credited Davis for his skills and accuracy. In addition, Garcia mentioned that most of Davis’ punches cannot be anticipated, which is why they hurt.
Garcia states the terms of his rematch agaisnt Davis
Immediately after losing to ‘Tank’ in April last year, Garcia began demanding a rematch. However, due to the mismatch in the fight, the requests fell on deaf ears. However, with the upcoming fight between Haney and Garcia, there’s a good chance they could face off again.
However, this will only be possible if Garcia can defeat the undefeated WBC super-lightweight champion. Furthermore, in an interview with Kick streamer Neon on a recent stream, he reiterated his call for a rematch with Davis. However, unlike their last fight, according to Garcia, there must be no weight clause in their contract.
Hence, Garcia announced his intent to fight Davis in a rematch in the 140-pound division. Furthermore, Garcia does not want any weight or reinforcement clause in their last fight. In addition, Garcia mostly blamed his loss against Davis because of that clause.
In case you missed it!
