Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney met for the first official pre-fight press conference at New York’s Palladium Times Square. Fans and followers didn’t see any of the antics fans saw at the Super Bowl, but the meeting was as intense as could be expected. ‘King Ry’ later spoke to a handful of reporters who asked questions about the upcoming fight on April 20. However, some of the journalists seemed to want to know what the young boxer thought about another potential mega-fight.

According to recent reports, Gervonta Davis has agreed to fight Frank Martin for the WBA lightweight title. Furthermore, the fight is expected to take place by the second half of the year. Hence, since Garcia has trained with Martin, the reporters asked Garcia if he ever sparred with him. Subsequently, the reporters also wanted to know what Garcia’s predictions were for the upcoming bout. Garcia responded, stating:

I’m going to go with Frank because I’m going to be there. Every step of the way and put him on game like this is what he likes to do, this is what he will do, boom.

Garcia revealed that he did not spar with Martin, but they did train together under Derrick James. In addition, Garcia asserted that he would be there for Martin, which suggests that Garcia believes that he will defeat Davis. 

However, Garcia sounded unsure when the reporter asked if Martin could secure an early stoppage against Davis. Furthermore, Garcia stated that he will teach Martin what Davis tends to do inside the ring and will help him prepare for the fight.

Many boxing fans hold these sessions in high regard, believing they provide a glimpse of a fighter’s true potential in the ring. Furthermore, Garcia didn’t see the sparring session, but according to people who saw the fight, Davis had Haney against the ropes and was beating him up. 

While both fighters are considered talented by many fans and critics, this revelation could raise questions about Haney’s ability to compete against the likes of Davis. Subsequently, it is important to note that sparring matches are not a perfect predictor of skill or potential.
