Devin Haney is going to make the first title defense of the WBC Super Lightweight title that he won against Regis Prograis. He will do so against his old rival, Ryan Garcia, on April 20. This is a significant turning point in Garcia’s career after his first professional loss against Gervonta Davis. Even though Garcia came back with a KO victory this December, his fight with Haney is his latest biggest fight.

As such, Garcia considers him the star of the show, even though Haney has a championship belt currently. In addition. Garcia had a plethora of options for the opponents he could have chosen for this fight. This was seen when he showed interest in fighting Haney, Rolando Romero, and Isaac Cruz at the beginning of 2024. In the recent DAZN faceoff, Garcia mentioned why he chose Haney and stated:

Like I said, I saw him picking up steam like he was, you know, making noise? And I felt like he got to the point where, It’s time to run it, you know?

Garcia feels that Haney has reached a point in his career where a fight between them makes sense. Furthermore, Ryan Garcia stated that he always told Haney about his plan, and he stuck to it and is now ready for the fight.

Many people have told KingRy that Devin Haney is not a worthy opponent, but Garcia does not agree with this narrative. In addition, King Ry vouches for Haney in these scenarios and has always stated that both of them have been waiting for this for a long time.

Devin Haney believes Garcia has not gotten better

The Dream and KingRy have shared a passionate amateur boxing rivalry and have fought six times. Hence, both of them knew each other quite well, especially inside the ring. Even though Garcia and Haney have not fought in nine years, Haney believes that Garcia has not improved at all.

He has previously mentioned that Garcia has always been a good fighter but has not improved from his amateur days. As such, during the recent DAZN faceoff, Haney also brought this topic up and mentioned that Garcia’s fighting style is still the same.

The Dream acknowledged that Garcia has gotten bigger and stronger ever since then. However, he believes that KingRy still fights like an amateur boxer. Garcia responded to this by stating that their fight will reveal whether that is the truth or not.
