Concerns about Ryan Garcia‘s mental health have been mounting ever since his outlandish claims on social media. After his series of strange social media posts, things seemed to have settled down momentarily. As such, Garcia was seen working hard at his training camp and maintained that the fight would go forward as planned. However, this was not enough for the NY Boxing Commission, which seemed to have not dismissed Garcia’s previous concerning social media posts.

To discern his mental condition, the NY Boxing Commission has urged him to pass a mental evaluation. As such, the governing body believes that this has to be done for the fight to move forward. This request will be taken seriously since the fight is happening in New York and comes under the direct jurisdiction of the NY Boxing Commission. However, Ryan Garcia was not happy after hearing this news and responded by stating:

They're trying to challenge me for a mental evaluation. I said, 'Okay, what is your premise for the mental evaluation?' They said, 'Well, your tweets and your posts'. I said, 'Is it not my US constitutional right to have free speech?

Moreover, Garcia believes that his strange tweets are part of his constitutional right to free speech. Subsequently, ‘King Ry’ intends to sue the NY boxing commission for ‘defamation of character’. These recent developments have increased concerns over the hyped fight.

The WBC President speaks to Ryan Garcia

The entire combat sports world has announced their concern for Garcia’s well-being and mental health. Furthermore, this has led WBC president, Mauricio Sulaiman to also address the situation and the concerns about the fight. The bout will be carried out in New York, which means that it comes under the jurisdiction of the NY Boxing Commission and the New York State Athletic Commission.

However, the WBC is an integral aspect of the event since the WBC super-lightweight title is at stake in the fight. Hence, while the Commission can cancel the fight, the WBC has the power to not sanction it in the first place. Furthermore, Sulaiman recently revealed that they are closely monitoring the situation and are in touch with the governing body.

In addition, Sulaiman stated that he even spoke to Garcia and stated that he was in training camp. Subsequently, the WBC President claimed that Garcia is a ‘nice kid’ and believes that he will be ready for the fight on April 20.
