Boxer Shakur Stevenson thinks his upcoming fight with Edwin De Los Santos will be of utilitarian purposes. He thinks that it is to be used by fans to see if he measures up for his dream fight. The fight being, Gervonta Davis. Los Santos is a replacement for PBC-affiliated southpaw, Frank Martin. Martin weighed in the conditions and concluded that the pay wasn’t enough for the 135lbs championship bout.

Standing at 29-0, 27 KOs, Davis is a harder punch, in the literal sense, than Los Santos (16-1, 14 KOs). Los Santos, however, is also a skilled boxer-puncher with 82 percent wins in pro boxing. Regardless, Stevenson has been yearning for a fight with Davis for quite some time now. Speaking with BoxingScene, he said:

I think it’s the biggest fight in the world... think that when it happens it need to be promoted and put out there like that. I think that me and him is two of the best fighters in the world. And honestly, I just feel like it should be worldwide. That’ll be the best fight in boxing right now, if you ask me...

Stevenson, who is at 20-0, and 10 KOs himself has been a two-division world champion and is celebrated in the trade. The 2016 Olympic silver medalist is confident that the match with Davis will happen, just not when. He has repeatedly wanted to face the secondary WBA lightweight champion, the “Tank.”

Additionally, Davis firmly holds the WBA secondary lightweight crown for now and nitpicks his fights. But Stevenson is only able to capture the belt, (previously belonging to the undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney) after his current bout. That being the vacant WBC lightweight title bout in Las Vegas against Los Santos.

Shakur Stevenson calls Gervonta Davis the biggest superstar in the sport

Former two-division world champion Shakur Stevenson is adamantly set on fighting Gervonta Davis soon. He has often predicted that it will be the biggest fight in boxing when it happens. Gervonta, promoted by Floyd Mayweather Jr., has never been challenged with a gigantic bout of enormous stakes in his career.

He nitpicks his fights safely; hence the wait. Stevenson follows suit of Vasily Lomachenko, as a textbook example of repeated futility. The boxer has been trying to book a match with Davis since 2018 but in vain.

But the futility of the effort has not curbed Stevenson’s enthusiasm, in the least. The Southpaw still considers Davis as the best in the boxing trade. In an interview, recently, when asked if he would accept a lower split in pay to get the match fulfilled, he said:

Honestly, why would I not take it? Like I said once again he(Gervonta Davis) is the biggest superstar in the sport...give me the call and I’m ready to talk...

In a past interview with 2ndWindPod, Stevenson had said he was confident that Davis would sign a contract to fight him soon. However, many fans and peers have noted that this is a futile process. If Stevenson were to linger long within the division waiting for a fight, the common belief is he might have nothing to show for it.
