Shakur Stevenson raised a lot of eyebrows last month when he announced his retirement from boxing. Before this, he had fought Edwin De Los Santos on the 16th of November, 2023. The fight was a disappointment for fans of the sport since both boxers kept their distance from each other. The 2 boxers barely exchanged punches throughout the 12 rounds of the fight. Even though he successfully defended the WBC lightweight title, the fight was heavily criticized. However, his retirement did not come as a result of this fight.
The primary reason for his retirement was the match between Emanuel Navarrete and Denys Berinchyk. Subsequently, the WBO announced that they would fight for Stevenson’s vacant WBO lightweight belt. As a result, Stevenson declared his disgust with the situation and announced his retirement. However, Stevenson has cut short his retirement now and stated:
Hell nah, I was being emotional. I’m off that soft-a*s sh*t, though. I’m back outside in the summer.Skakur Stevenson via X

In response to a tweet asking about his retirement, Stevenson announced that it is over. In addition, Stevenson said he plans to get back in the ring in the summer of 2024. According to multiple outlets, Shakur Stevenson is expected to make his return on July 6 at New Jersey’s Prudential Center.
Although the date and location of Stevenson’s next bout have been announced, the fighter’s opponent has yet to be named. However, reports have suggested that Raymond Muratalla with a record of 19-0 could be his next opponent.
Shakur Stevenson claims he is the best boxer
With a 21-fight unbeaten streak and 10 knockouts in his last 21 fights, Stevenson is looking to make a statement in the summer to secure some bigger events. Furthermore, his next fight will take place on July 6, as he looks to keep his WBC lightweight belt for the time being. In addition, Stevenson will aim to redeem his horrible performance against De Los Santos last November.

The fight was attended by people like Floyd Mayweather, Terence Crawford, and Andre Ward. Subsequently, Stevenson stated that he was feeling very off during that fight, and it led to his horrible performance. However, now that Stevenson plans to return to the ring, he has made the bold proclamation that he is the best boxer. Furthermore, Stevenson claimed that nobody can beat him and that he is ready to make a massive fight happen.
Recently, Stevenson also agreed to replace Ryan Garcia for the Devin Haney fight, citing concerns over Garcia’s well-being. In addition, Garcia has maintained that the fight will happen, so Stevenson may not replace him.
