Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney is set to take place on April 20, and Haney will defend his WBC super-lightweight title. However, the fight might face a few hurdles because of Garcia’s social media presence. Garcia has been going viral because of his antics, leaving many wondering if the fight will take place at all. As such, Shakur Stevenson has stepped ahead and offered to replace Garcia for the WBC super-lightweight title fight.
Since the start of the press tour, Ryan Garcia’s mental health has taken a turn for the worse on social media. Furthermore, Ryan Garcia has continued his antics on social media by claiming that he is being oppressed by ‘the elites’. Meanwhile, Stevenson hasn’t been able to find a suitable opponent after his poor showing against Edwin De Los Santos.
In addition, Garcia posted a video claiming that he was okay, but he still left fans worried. Stevenson retweeted this, stating:
Sub me in Coach.. Prayers up Lil bra.Shakur Stevenson on X
It should be noted that Haney’s mandatory opponent is Sandor Martin if he does not fight Garcia. Hence, Haney would likely face Martin rather than Stevenson, even though the fight with Stevenson is bigger. Furthermore, Stevenson insists that he’s the right choice to replace Garcia, given the interest this fight has generated.
However, Garcia has maintained that the fight will happen on April 20, regardless of the concerns about his mental health. Subsequently, at the second press conference, Haney’s father directly asked Garcia if he would show up for the fight. Garcia did not respond and began using his phone, which further made fans worry about the fight.
Gervonta Davis responds to Shakur Stevenson
Garcia recently leaked the infamous sparring video between Haney and Gervonta Davis during their social media back-and-forth. Furthermore, the video shows Davis dominating Haney and pushing him against the ropes. Hence, seeing Haney get caught by a barrage of punches caused quite a stir in the boxing world.
After witnessing the video, fans began to want to witness a sparring match between Stevenson and Davis. This is because Stevenson, Davis, and Haney have all appeared in Floyd Mayweather‘s gym for sparring sessions during their youth. Furthermore, Stevenson replied to a fan tweet about wanting to see the sparring video between him and Davis. Subsequently, Stevenson claimed that he had never received a beating like that by any fighter till now.
However, Davis responded to Stevenson’s tweet and stated that Stevenson knew what had happened in their sparing session. Hence, this suggested that Stevenson had received a similar beatdown during a sparring session.
