Shakur Stevenson became a three-division world championship after beating Edwin De Los Santos with a unanimous decision. The fight took place on November 16 at Las Vegas’s T-Mobile Arena. Stevenson approached the early rounds in a relaxed manner, displaying no eagerness to assert himself. Subsequently, Stevenson’s poor performance was deemed a money grab by Santos’ promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz.

Both fighters were cautious in the early stages, and the American was able to rely on his mobility and counter-striking to control the early rounds. This made the fight boring and uneventful, which made fans boo the fighters, as many left the arena. Although Lewkowicz also accused his fighter of not forcing Stevenson into a fight, he believes that Shakur Stevenson was the main culprit for the lack of action in the 12-round bout.

As such, Lewkowicz stated:

I believe Stevenson doesn’t deserve to be a champion. He’s not humble enough to represent the people as a champion.

Subsequently, Lewkowicz stated that both fighters did not deserve to be champions, and he hadn’t seen such a horrible fight in 30 years. In addition, Lewkowicz stated that Stevenson epically does not deserve to be a champion and could humble himself because he is hurting the image of boxing.

He further stated that he would never want a rematch to happen because he does not want to be embarrassed again.

However, Lewkowicz mentioned that Santos will get an opportunity to prove himself as a good fighter in the future. Furthermore, Lewkowicz felt that the only reason Stevenson did not engage with Santos was because Stevenson felt his power.

Most of the criticism was directed at Stevenson, who ultimately emerged victorious by a unanimous decision. In a recent post on Instagram, Stevenson provided an explanation for his performance, which was widely interpreted as an excuse. The post was a message from Stevenson telling his significant other that he didn’t feel so good before the fight.

In addition, after the fight, Stevenson also apologized to pound-for-pound legends Floyd Mayweather, Terence Crawford, and Andre Ward, who came to witness and support his fight. Furthermore, Stevenson stated that Santos had great attack and defense, but Santos did not fight and remained cautious as well.
