Boxing star Teofimo Lopez has hit back at promoter Eddie Hearn for his recent comments. The prominent boxing promoter recently claimed that Lopez could not sell tickets. Subsequently, when Lopez sat down for a chat with Boxing Social, he addressed Hearn’s remarks about him not being a box-office draw. In addition, Lopez responded by calling Matchroom Sport’s promoter a liar for these claims.
The boxer believed that Hearn’s accusations against him were made because he was part of another boxing promotion. According to Lopez, his most recent bout against Josh Taylor at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden sold out in no time. Furthermore, Lopez stated:
Eddie Hearn is a fluke, a liar, and lying to you guys... If I were under Matchroom, it would be a whole different story. But we're… Top Rank.Teofimo Lopez via Boxing Social
In an interview with Boxing Social, Lopez blatantly fired back at Hearn and stated that he was a liar. Furthermore, Lopez claimed that Hearn made these comments because he is from an opposing and rival promotion company. Subsequently, Lopez went on to debunk Hearn’s claims by announcing the success of his last fight.
In addition, Lopez stated that his fight with Taylor didn’t just barely sell tickets; instead, it managed to sell out the arena. Lopez also mentioned that it was the highest-grossing in the venue’s history, which proves that Hearn’s claims are false.
Eddie Hearn’s claims about Teofimo Lopez
Hearn and Lopez have been beefing for quite some time now. Subsequently, Lopez’s latest response to Hearn’s comments about his last fight against Taylor contradicts what the boxing promoter said a few weeks ago.
Furthermore, in December, Hearn gave an interview to Fight Hub TV, claiming that Lopez and Shakur Stevenson could not sell over 4,000 tickets. Hearn went on to say that the match between ‘Lopez and Taylor’ at the Hulu Theater in Madison Square Garden was not a sold-out show. Hence, Hearn’s and Loepz’s claims are contradictory.
Regardless, the fight was a huge success for Lopez, who scored an upset victory over Taylor and became the WBO welterweight champion. After the fight, Lopez announced his retirement because he was not satisfied with his fighter’s purse.
