Former UFC Heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou and WBC champion Tyson Fury are slated to face off on October 28 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Ngannou went on Twitter to post a cinematic tourney promo between him and the opponent. The video has generated a buzz in the combat sports world.
In a very creative promo, both fighters brought out the intuitive actors in them. Each step into training and preparation they take before the stage remains the core idea in the video. It also showed the world around each other breaking apart excitedly ahead of the boxing match. WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has informed that the bout received special permission due to the lack of an official challenger. Fury could compete against Andy Ruiz, Anthony Joshua, and Oleksandr Usyk, but they did not come to fruition. This led to the crossover match between Ngannou and Fury.
The promoters and the WBC clarified that the bout would comply with boxing regulations. The match between the ex-UFC fighter and boxing’s heavyweight king will have three 3 judges ringside to score it. It would be a usual 10-point system match and considering the participants involved, it might not even see the judges scorecard.
Ngannou hasn’t competed in any high-stakes bout like this since after his title fight against Ciryl Gane. In the high-profile matchup at UFC 270, Ngannou won a decision to retain his heavyweight title. He underwent surgery two months later to repair a torn MCL and ACL. Later, he left the UFC and joined PFL in 2023. Meanwhile, Fury has remained undefeated in his trade. Only time will what will be the outcome of the heavyweight super fight.

After a tease in April 2022, the big fight is actually happening! Tyson Fury vs. Francis Ngannou will headline the boxing card in October. The two heavyweights in their respective trades come to blows in a regulated match with boxing stipulations. Followed by an in-ring meet-up by Fury and Ngannou after a victory over Dillian Whyte, a boxing match was announced on July 11.

Despite the stipulation and sanction with rules as such, Fury’s WBC heavyweight title will not be at stake in this bout. Without the intention of being a publicity stunt or a promotion sales pitch, both fighters have admirably worked on this build-up. Before leaving UFC, Ngannou had stressed on the MMA Hour that he wanted the promotion to be involved in a Fury-fight to enlarge its scope. Ngannou got his wish despite no longer fighting under the UFC banner.
