Chael Sonnen discusses how Mike Tyson got destroyed against Evander Holyfield during his fighting days. Tyson in his prime was simply a different beast, dominating most of his opponents; however, he failed to stop Holyfield twice in a row.

In a conversation with comedian Andrew Schulz, former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen talked about the iconic fight between Tyson and Holyfield. Sonnen explained how Tyson got frustrated by the headbutts from Evander Holyfield, ended up biting his ears, and ultimately lost the fight.

He said, “The one that he lost to Holyfield, which really shook the world. Tyson after the fight, he fell apart. He broke completely. But afterwards, when he was talking about the headbutting and he was being headbutt everytime they clinch…He did more damage hitting you in the liver than he ever did brushing your head. This was a soft blow, but it was blow that he wasn’t supposed to do and that broke him.”

According to Sonnen, those headbutts were nothing in comparison to the liver shots Holyfield was connecting with, but Mike Tyson wasn’t ready for the headbutts. Sonnen mentioned that this naturally resulted in Tyson losing the fight and breaking down.

In the world of combat sports, Chael Sonnen has made a lot of friends, but Mike Tyson is not one of them.  Sonnen revealed in a video on his YouTube channel that during his time at Fox, he was instructed to conduct a brief, three-minute interview with Iron Mike. But when the interview was delayed beyond Tyson’s control and he had to wait longer than expected, the former heavyweight champion became a little irritable with the MMA fighter.

“So before this gets aired to the world, before any of you guys can see it, I say hello to Mike,” Sonnen continued, explaining that this greeting also serves as an audio check. “You’ve gotta understand that from my perspective, I’m excited. That’s Iron Mike Tyson. Well, he didn’t say ‘It’s nice to see you Chael.’ He didn’t say ‘Thank you for having me on.’ He didn’t say ‘Everything is going great.’ His body language, first off, was very frustrated. “
