After securing the controversial win against Vasiliy Lomachenko, Devin Haney remains the undisputed light heavyweight champion. The bout was a challenging one for both the fighters, but Lomachenko thinks it was him who edged the victory mark. It was a unanimous decision, but according to the Ukrainian fighter, it was the biggest robbery. Countless jabs from Lomachenko put the champion on the back foot. But his barrage of jabs couldn’t satisfy the judges, who gave all rounds to Haney.
There was already tension between both fighters when ‘Loma’ got a hard push from Devin at the face-off. On fight day, the American-native crowd was cheering for Lomachenko. However, the Ukrainian ended up losing the fight, with many feeling that the decision was a “robbery,” including Lomachenko’s team.
Loma’s manager said that they will be appealing his UD loss to Haney. “We’re not going to let it go; I guarantee we’re going to protest; we’re going to appeal. Somebody needs to end this injustice.” Now they will appeal against the decision to overturn it, as they think Lomachenko did enough to win the bout. After the fight, the 35-year-old was seen crying in his locker room.
During the prefight face-off, Vasiliy Lomachenko guaranteed to give a tough challenge
During the ceremonial weigh-in, Vasily Lomachenko and Devin Haney were on stage when Haney shoved Loma angrily, which forced the security to come in between them. After that, Devin was forced to go off stage, but backstage after the act, Lomachenko said, “He’s mine, now he’s mine. He doesn’t have the power. I felt it, I felt it. [He shoved me] because he’s scared, he’s scared. Because I saw it around now, one-hundred percent.”
But the judges’ scorecards of 116-112, 115-113, and 115-113 went in favor of Haney. Fans were shocked all over the arena as soon the winner was announced at MGM Grand Arena. Fans in the arena were seen arguing that Ukrainians were “robbed.” During the post-fight interview, the 35-year-old was extremely upset as he said, “I don’t want to talk about this. All people saw what happened here today.”
