Fans are accusing the much-anticipated title bout between Rolly Romero and Ismael Barroso of being rigged. Referees in boxing are responsible for being cautious and preventing fighters from sustaining serious injuries, but this also places them in various controversies.
During the WBA Super Lightweight Championship fight between Romero and Barroso, the referee stopped the match in the 9th round, declaring Romero the new champion. This decision has come under fire from fans who believe that the fight was fixed. It raised a lot of questions as during the exchange, Romero didn’t land any substantial shot on his opponent. But referee Tony Weeks halted the fight thinking that Barroso was hurt which in reality he wasn’t.
