Boxing legend Mike Tyson is known to be one of the most feared fighters ever to enter the ring. However, post-retirement, Tyson has shown the world is more peaceful side. In a recent interview, some words by John Fury get the heavyweight to tear up on camera.

‘Iron’ Mike was a force to be reckoned with. During his time, every boxer feared the name Mike Tyson. He was known to be smaller in stature than other heavyweights, but his boxing would knock any of them down like paperweights. Mike Tyson has known to owe all his success to his coach and trainer, Cus D’amato. Cus was the most significant factor when disciplining a teenage Tyson and encouraging him to fight in the ring rather than on the streets for petty crimes.

Tyson appeared in an interview uploaded on the Youtube channel Boxing Arabia. The interviewer later introduced the current heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury’s father, onto the show. John Fury couldn’t find enough words to express his admiration for Tyson. He said he named his son, who was almost about to die (Tyson Fury), after Mike Tyson. John Fury also declared that Mike Tyson was the reason he got into boxing and has been an inspiration for him and his son throughout their entire careers. John Fury also brings Cus D’amato into the conversation, enough to tip the scales and tear Tyson’s eye. We do not see Iron Mike being emotional on camera every day. The interviewer and John Fury seemed to appreciate this and continued the conversation sensitively.

It’s safe to say that the respect Mike Tyson has for his coach Cus D’amato is paramount. Cus impacts Tyson’s life through boxing and as a man. Some of the principles in Tyson today are most likely due to Cus D’amato’s teachings, and he must be cherished for giving Iron Mike to the boxing world.

In an interview with the legendary fighter Mike Tyson, the question presented to him was a hypothetical situation. The interviewer knew one of the few questions that would emotionally stimulate Tyson was about his coach, who had passed away years ago. Legendary trainer Cus D’amato is a significant reason why Tyson succeeded in his career. The interviewer asked Tyson to “imagine god coming down to you and giving you a phone or a laptop. He allows you to write an email to your coach, Cus D’amato. What would you say to Cus?”

Tyson initially responds with astonishment as he realises the depth of the question a little later. The former heavyweight champion of the boxing world must not have expected to be asked a question that is so personal to him. But he responded with an answer, “How did I do? Yeah. that’s what I’d ask him.”

These are just some instances where legendary figures from all kinds of sports owe their success and growth to someone else. Someone who allowed themselves to trust and be nurtured. As Mike Tyson proves, surrounding yourself with the right people can go a long way.
