Anthony Joshua delivered a stellar performance, while his heavyweight rival Deontay Wilder suffered an upsetting loss. Both heavyweights appeared at the massively stacked fight card ‘The Day of Reckoning’ on December 23. Furthermore, they were the main and co-main events and were slated to face each other in 2024 if they both won. Subsequently, while Wilder had a hard time against Joseph Parker, Joshua easily dominated his opponent, Otto Wallin.

Joshua was solely focused on this match from the get-go, and even in interviews, he appeared calm and composed. As such, Joshua was able to channel the same focus into the ring when he fought against Wallin. Furthermore, Joshua had a new trainer in his corner, Ben Davison, who has also been Tyson Fury’s trainer in the past.

Inside the ring, Joshua appeared composed and confident, and pressurized Wallin from the get-go. Subsequently, after a few rounds, Joshua managed to bust up Wallin’s nose.

In the 5th round, Joshua changed the fight after landing a straight right and left hook combo. The combinations rattled Wallin, who was backed against the ropes, as Joshua barraged Wallin with punches. However, Wallin managed to survive the attack and remained defensive until the round ended.

Subsequently, Wallin’s corner realized that their fighter was clearly rattled and was not fit to fight anymore. Hence, they called off the fight, giving Joshua a TKO win after a dominant performance. Furthermore, Joshua now wishes to fight Filip Hrgovic next to become a three-time world champion.

Anthony Joshua and Andy Ruiz interact

The event was attended by combat sports stars and other famous faces, including Joshua’s former rival, Andy Ruiz. Ruiz defeated Joshua via TKO in 2019 after accepting the fight a month before it was due to take place.

Later that year, the two boxers met again in a rematch, which Joshua won by unanimous decision. Subsequently, after his dominant victory over Wallin at the main event, Joshua was spotted having a chat with Ruiz. The latter was sitting at the ringside and watching the fight, as Joshua approached him from the ring and greeted him.

In addition, they showed respect for each other, bumped fists, and proceeded to have a short chat. Furthermore, Joshua was heard telling Ruiz that he is better and calmer now. The remark was a proclamation from Joshua about his process after their fight in 2019.
