WBC Super lightweight champ, Devin Haney finally has his war. This will be against international PPV star “King” Ryan Garcia on April 20th live on DAZN. At 31-0, ‘The Dream’ is undefeated in the boxing realm. Meanwhile 25-year ‘King Ry’ already rebounded from his loss to Gervonta Davis last year. Davis fought him in April 2023, substantially amounting to the highest rating PPV of the year.
The duo have been engaging in quite the banter over the weeks. One of which extended to their fathers Bill Haney and Henry Garcia dissing each other as well. Before the fiery faceoff between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia from Tuesday’s press conference at the Palladium in Times Square, there was another wholesome moment. That saw the pro boxers share a laugh while their fathers went for each other’s jugular.
A prime reaction noted – “Oh yeah. , this is gonna be one of those fights for sure.” While another quipped at “The battle of the old heads.”
Garcia’s switcheroo from Devin Haney to Rolly Romero right after a 3 AM run in Las Vegas after an NBA game with 50-0 legend Floyd Mayweather caught a lot of flak. From the labeling of the Floyd Mayweather effect to Haney himself ripping him for such a decision. Garcia had fired back for it as behaviorism learned from Haney’s dad, on accusations of sabotaging upcoming fights. As such, these have gone on for a while.
But to see their most ardent supporters in their corner go at it like children amused Ryan Garcia and his rival. Who thus shared a quick smirk. Haney, the #7 P4P for the Ring Magazine, meets 24-1 Garcia on April 20 at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Ryan Garcia finds retirement ultimatum agreeable?
A career could be on the line soon. Undefeated lightweight and current WBC Super lightweight champ Devin Haney finally takes on Ryan Garcia. Haney has been keen on testing his mettle against the 25-year-old pro boxer. Garcia, on the other hand, bagged a stunning KO victory over Oscar Duarte last December and is ready for the challenge.
Accordingly, Garcia appears to have put his career on the line for the hashout. A heated back-and-forth has ensued between the boxers for a while now. So much so that even their fathers got name-called and dragged into their altercations. Such was the scene at a recent event.
Bill Haney thus took this opportune moment to fire back for the snub of respect for his name. At the pre-fight press conference at the Palladium in Times Square, Haney said –
If you get knocked out in the first round, are you going to retire?
To which Garcia answered:
I’ll give you my word.
The 25-year-old then shook on it with the defending champion. “King” Ryan Garcia has become one of the biggest mainstream names in the sphere of boxing. With a dynamic style and killer left-hook he is all but undefeated, except one blemish. They meet at the Barclays Center on April 20 for a must-see match.
However, such stakes make the affair quite unassailable. It remains to be seen if Garcia can overcome the champion or if would he be required to fulfill his promise of retirement at such an early age.
