When Mike Tyson decided to taunt the entire nation of Brazil by wearing Argentinian legend Diego Maradona’s jersey to court

Mike Tyson
Mike Tyson’s life is nothing but a script out of a Hollywood movie. The former world heavyweight champion has been through all of it. From knocking out opponents to going to jail for rape charges. Outside the ring, the fighter has numerous stories including many other celebrities from that time.
One such incident is when “Iron Mike” took a huge dig at the people of Brazil. Tyson has always been an extremely polarizing figure and his encounters with the media were not always smooth. In the year 2005, during his visit to Brazil, Tyson got into some legal trouble after he allegedly punched the cameraman of the local news channel. The incident took place outside a nightclub in Sao Paulo where Tyson was making his way out and got angry at the cameraman for following him. Tyson hit him and also broke his camera equipment. The cameraman named Carlos Da Silva Melo took the matter to the cops who later talked to Tyson and took his statement. The cops also asked the boxer to go to court the next day and pay for the damages he made.
Tyson accepted the agreement but didn’t just go to the courthouse without making a huge statement. The fighter went to testify wearing an Argentina football jersey to mock the officials. The jersey was given to Tyson by the legendary Argentine footballer, Diego Maradona. This instigated public outrage given the history of both these countries when it comes to football. Maradona was a huge legend at that time and during his career played against Brazil on multiple occasions.
