Shawn Porter competed in a boxing match against Terence Crawford last night. These two put up a masterclass inside the boxing ring, but in the 10th round, Crawford turned things up and scored two knockdowns against his opponent. Porter’s father and coach threw in the towel after the 2nd knockdown, and Crawford was declared the winner of this bout.

After the fight, Porter announced that he will be retiring from boxing, and many people speculated that it was because of this loss. Porter, however, claimed he was going to announce his retirement regardless of the result of this bout. Porter has had a long and decorated boxing career, he made $4 Million guaranteed from this bout, and he sits in a comfortable position to live his life in harmony. Talking about his decision, he said, “I was prepared to announce my retirement tonight, win, lose or draw. Even if it was a draw … I was not going to do it again. I’m announcing my retirement right now.”

Claressa Shields believes Porter definitely had more to offer, she wrote, “Dang… he definitely has more in the tank. I just think his dads comments discouraged him to move forward with more fights… just my thoughts.”

Andre Berto mentioned the way Porter’s dad talked about his performance, he wrote, “Shawn’s dad does to much man, Porter did a great job but to say he wasn’t prepared and thinks he knows it all, just throwing him under the bus embarrassing the kid is wack. Porter did a hell of a job tonight.”

Luke Thomas was impressed by Crawford’s performance, he wrote, “Shawn Porter’s father/corner just threw in the towel, metaphorically anyway. Crawford wins and becomes the first fighter to stop Shawn Porter.”
