Tyson Fury announces retirement: Here’s what happens to the WBC championship now

Tyson Fury is one of the biggest stars in boxing today
WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury decided to announce his retirement last weekend and many might wondered what would happen to the WBC championship belt then. Read to know what would possibly happen to the belt.
Last weekend, Tyson Fury took on mandatory WBC title challenger Dillian Whyte at the Wembley Stadium in front of a record-breaking 94,000 people in London. Fury was a favorite heading into the fight and he did not disappoint the fans with his performances. One of the greatest performances from the Gypsy King saw Whyte failing at his hands with the cleanest of uppercuts in the sixth round.

Following the spectacular win, Fury announced that he has decided to close the curtains on his amazing career. According to the 33-year-old boxer, he has achieved everything there is in the sport of boxing and wants to retire at his highest. If and actually, Fury sticks to his retirement, he will be forced to vacate the WBC heavyweight championship belt.
Tyson beat Deontay Wilder in February 2020 to win the WBC belt, coming out of retirement. The Gypsy King then went on to defend the WBC belt in a trilogy fight against Wilder. While many hoped he would go for the winner of Usyk vs Joshua for the undisputed championship title, Fury has decided to hang his gloves after 20 years of boxing.
Will Deontay Wilder fight for the title following Tyson Fury’s retirement?

According to WBC rankings, Deontay is currently at the #1 spot. Joe Joyce is at #2 and Joseph Parker is at #3. If Fury does vacate the belt, then a fight between Joseph Parker vs Joe Joyce will decide the contender for the vacant title against the Bronze Bomber. Despite Wilder getting twice in a row against Fury in his last two fights, he still ranks #1 according to WBC.
A fight against Wilder vs Joyce would surely excite the fans given how the two stylistically match up. Wilder undoubtedly is the hardest puncher in the boxing sport while Joyce has one of the best chins in the sport. It is speculated that Fury will vacate the title only after the result of Usyk vs Joshua 2 is known. If Anthony Joshua indeed wins back all his belt from Oleksandr Usyk in the upcoming rematch, then a fight between Tyson vs AJ would be very hard to turn down.
Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury for the undisputed heavyweight title would arguably go down as the biggest heavyweight boxing matchup in British history. Do you think Tyson vacates the belt?
