Williams and Colon fought in a ten-round boxing match at Fairfax, Virginia. Many felt Colon had a steady lead in the rounds leading up to the infamous finish. It eventually helped Williams to knock down Colon in the fight. The ringside doctor allowed Colon to continue. However, after the ninth round, the referee disqualified Colon for removing his gloves. He went back to the dressing room, where he vomited and collapsed. Later, he was diagnosed with a left-sided subdural hematoma in the hospital. Boxing career of Prichard Colon
Colon and his family settled in Puerto Rico. He had a stellar amateur career, winning 5 national championships at 141 and 152 pounds. Colon also won the gold at the Pan American Youth Championship in 2010. He started his professional career after failing to qualify for the London Olympics.
Colon had knockout power and finished 13 of his opponents. Colon was on his way to challenging for a title before facing Terrel Williams. However, the devastating outcome of his fight ended his boxing career. He could have become the best boxer to come out of Puerto Rico.
Current situation of Prichard Colon
The brain bleeding had severe consequences for Colon. He remained in a persistent vegetative state for the rest of 2017. Colon’s mother, Nieves Colon, remains his best support. A mother will always care for her kids. She has helped Colon in his rehabilitation process.
In 2018, his mother posted a video where Prichard Colon started taking physical therapy and responding to verbal cues. Prichard needs the assistance of a computer to communicate. In 2023, he continued his rehab with his mother by his side. However, his speech function has yet to return.

No fighter wants to be responsible for his opponent’s life-threatening injuries. Williams fought dirty against Prichard Colon. However, he regrets his actions and prays for his Colon daily.
Williams said, “I pray for Prichard every day. That’s never going to change. I wish him nothing but peace and health. No one wants what happened to Prichard to happen to anybody.
