Legendary boxer Manny Pacquiao returned to the bright lights after two whole years against Cuban champ Yordenis Ugas. Ugas had an upset win over Pacquiao as he beat the Filipino via unanimous decision.
Yordenis Ugas has a career record of 27-4 and decided to take the fight against Manny Pacquiao in just 11 days’ notice. This victory is historical. The boxing match took place inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The arena had a crowd present in it rooting for the living legend. Ugas outscored Pacquiao by 101 to 88. The judges scored the fight 115-113, 116-112, 116-112. This victory would’ve surely made Pacquiao rethink his decision to continue fighting. Manny is 42 years old and has already revealed that he considers running for President in his country.
“I’m sorry that we lost tonight, but I did my best,” Pacquiao said. “I don’t know, I don’t know. Let me rest first and relax [before] I make the decision of whether I will fight or not. I will make a final announcement [about running for president] next month. I know that I am facing a big problem that’s more difficult than boxing but I want to help the people. I want to help them.”
Boxers react to Yordenis Ugas defeating Manny Pacquiao
Many boxers were emotional that Pacquiao lost but had words of encouragement for the fighter. Errol Spence, Claressa Shields, Andre Ward, and Terrence Crawford were some of the stars that reacted to Pacquiao’s loss.
Basketball superstar Damian Lillard reacted to the fight too.
The greatest female boxer, Claressa Shields wrote, “It’s about to get ugly because Ugas is not phased by Pacquiao punches and Manny knows that and he’s feeling that strength. He can’t get out the way of his jab or his right hook. Landed 3 right hooks this round!”
