Brad Gilbert suggests some ideas of his own after his player Coco Gauff had a ‘small fallout’ with the chair umpire during her match at the Paris Olympics on Tuesday (July 30). The American teenager was on her Olympics debut and had a lot of pressure to do well as the No. 2 seed.
She played well in the first two rounds of the singles draw, but was put to the test in the third round. Gauff was up against Donna Vekic, who fought hard for every point to win the first set. She continued to do the same in the second set and was even nearing a breakpoint when a wrong call went in favor of the Croatian.
Gauff, who was already under immense pressure, argued with the umpire over the call. She soon lost the match, which concluded her time in the singles leg of the tournament. However, her coach Brad Gilbert had a lot to suggest on the umpire techniques over a tweet.
I have said since we introduced Hawkeye replay calls like 20 years ago, That we should absolutely have incidental replays, umpires should have a TV monitor to look at replay, same with tournament referee if they come to court, must see replay quickly.Brad Gilbert wrote on X
He suggested that umpires use small monitors to review points before making judgments, though this change is unlikely to happen soon.

Tearful Coco Gauff also reiterates demand for VAR in the sport
Coco Gauff had a dispute with the chair umpire over a point in the second set of her third-round match against Donna Vekic. It was an important point for both the players, as the Croatian was on the verge of a breakpoint and Gauff on saving her service.
Unfortunately, she was unable to save it which aided Vekic in winning the match. Gauff and her coach did not hesitate to take a dig at the systems of the tennis. With Hawkeye and other technologies already running in the match, Gauff and Gilbert suggested that they bring in some more to match the review systems better.
I feel like in tennis, we should have a VAR system because these points are big deals.Coco Gauff said via The Athletic.
Nevertheless, the American has two more chances at the Olympics. She is cruising smoothly at both women’s doubles and mixed doubles to try to give herself a chance to win the tournament. On her debut, she is running for a chance for two medals for her country.
