Brad Hogg reveals who can be the potential successor of MS Dhoni at CSK

Chennai Super Kings started this season with newly appointed captain Ravindra Jadeja. MS Dhoni had stepped down as the CSK captain ahead of the 2022 IPL. But owing to their poor run of form, MS Dhoni had to take his chargeback as Chennai captain. CSK’s strategy of appointing Jadeja as the new captain didn’t work out, as they were locked in the bottom half of the IPL standings. The massive responsibilities of being the captain had affected Jadeja‘s performances in the field as well. Jaddu was even seen dropping consecutive catches in a match this IPL.

The 40-year-old legendary Indian wicket-keeper batsman summoned captaincy duties from yesterday‘s match. With MS Dhoni nearing his retirement, the biggest concern for the CSK fans remains about successfully replacing him. Ex-Australian spinner and World Cup winner Brad Hogg cited his opinion that replacing MS Dhoni with an Indian to lead the man in yellow would be a difficult task.

Brad Hogg’s take on MSD replacement:

MS Dhoni
CSK team

“Who is going to take over from MS Dhoni at the end of this year? I can’t see a player on CSK’s team list that can captain this team effectively and efficiently. They will have to go to the auction next year to find a player of captaining ability, and try to find an Indian to do the job is going to be hard because all the best Indian T20 players have already been assigned to other franchises,” said Brad Hogg via his YouTube channel.

Notably, franchises have preferred to name an Indian captain, as only four overseas players are allowed in the XI. However, Hogg reckons CSK has no other option besides picking an overseas player as a skipper. “They will have to go to an international player. It will be difficult to find a player that will fit in to the balance and the game plan that CSK already have in place,” he continued.

CSK has started this season miserably and are facing their worst ever season. The defending champions have only managed to win three out of the nine fixtures in this edition of the IPL. If they lose one more match they would not be able to qualify for the play-offs.
