Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand was recently asked about the heated exchange between him and head coach Jim Montgomery during Saturday’s game against Utah. The whole fiasco started after ‘Marchy’s costly overturn which gave opponents a chance to score.

Although it was ruled out, the Bruins lost 2-1 against the Utah Hockey Club in Salt Lake City. Immediately after the incident, Montogomery ripped Marchand for his miscue and even shoved him on his shoulder on the bench.

Following the incident head coach Jim Montgomery’s actions were heavily criticized by the fans, and it got into the social media spotlight. On Thursday when the question was repeated on the incident, Brad Marchand was shocked to know why and how it got out of hand when the player involved didn’t think about it at all.

People are very sensitive these days, it’s unfortunate how coaches are scrutinized over things like that. There’s a lack of accountability nowadays because people can’t handle the heat. You make a mistake like that, you deserve to hear about it.

Brad Marchand told the reporters

He further said that he deserved to be scolded after making such a costly mistake at a crucial point in the game. “I’m glad that he said something about it. If he didn’t we would have a much bigger issue,” Marchand noted.

He expressed how “talking about is disappointing” and it shouldn’t start a wave on social media to negatively impact the coach. Many fans supported how Brad Marchand handled the situation, while some did not take it lightly due to their fondness for the B’s captain.

Jim Montgomery says he’s moved on from Saturday’s messy incident

Even before Brad Marchand spoke about the incident involving Jim Montgomery, the Bruins head coach commented that no explanation was needed between them. He has full faith in the captain and excepts more than what Marchand demonstrated on Saturday.

According to Montgomery he has already moved on from the game incident and is looking forward to seeing how they’ll perform against the Dallas Stars on Thursday at TD Garden. He’s never been the one to shy away from criticizing his players no matter how important the position or role they play.

Between Marshy and I, there doesn’t need to be a conversation. Him and I are both emotional people. I’m not ecstatic with myself about it, but I don’t think about it afterwards, and neither does he. He’s a pro. He’s a great player that does so many good things for us, and he has high expectations as well. So for us, that’s over and done with.

Marchand even questioned, “That’s a thing?” when asked about their fiery interaction. Nevertheless, the incident is done and forgotten by both of them. The team is currently off to a rough start early in the 2023-24 season. They lost three of their last four matches and two straight losses.
