Canada has once again got the better of USA in hockey. On Thursday, the Canadian national team came back from 2-1 down and won 3-2 thanks to an overtime goal by Connor McDavid. After the victory, Brad Marchand took a swipe at the Tkachuk brothers – Brady and Matthew Tkachuk.

This matchup between the two nations came just 5 days the two sides had fought at the Bell Centre in Montreal. In that game, USA came out on top as 3-1 winners. After the match, the Tkachuk brothers made a big revelation.

Following the end of the match, Matthew Tkachuk claimed that they wanted to send a message to their rivals and had a group chat regarding their plans to fight. Before the final match, the Florida Panthers star had taken a jab at Brandon Hagel after the Canadian claimed that he did not fight Tkachuk for the cameras and instead fought for his country.

During the press conference after the final, Brad Marchand did not hold back at the antics of the two Tkachuk brothers.

They play their game. They do what they do. Sometimes when you shoot your mouth off in the media, it bites you. You can do that during the season, but when you’re playing best-on-best it’s different, and they got a little bit ahead of themselves.

Brad Marchand told the reporters in the 4 Nations Face-Off press conference

He though did credit the two of them for their skills and called them “great players”. In the final, Brady Tkachuk drew USA level on terms and canceled out Nathan MacKinnon‘s opener. Meanwhile, his brother was unable to make the type of impact he would have desired and did not play in the third period or OT due to the lower-body injury he suffered on Saturday.

Marchand had previously won gold U18 Junior World Cup, the World Cup of Hockey, the IIHF World Championship and twice at the World Juniors. The success on Thursday thus saw him clinch his 6th gold medal.

Speaking to the media after the final, Marchand mentioned how the Canadian players are build around hockey and that the only acceptable outcome for them was a gold medal.

As Canadian players, the only outcome that is acceptable is a gold medal. So, we don’t come into a tournament hoping to get to the finals or hoping to get to the medal round. It’s gold or bust.

Brad Marchand told the reporters

Now that the 4 Nations Face-Off is over, the attention will now turn to the remainder of the NHL season. Marchand’s team Boston Bruins will be in action on Saturday night against the Anaheim Ducks inside the very arena where the final was played.
