Team USA and Team Canada will clash for the gold medal once again. Ahead of the Olympic Gold medal game, Brady Tkachuk made his feelings known about this and expressed that he does not want to go through the emotions he went through last year after losing the 4 Nations Face-Off final.

A year ago, the USA and Canada took on each other during the 4 Nations Face-Off. After winning the group stage game, Tkachuk and his teammates faced the Canadians in the championship game at TD Garden in Boston.

With the game being levelled at 2-2 after the regulation period, it would head into overtime. In this period, Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid would step up and stole the headlines with the game-winning goal, giving his country a famous win.

Almost 12 months later, the two countries will face each other again in another final. While the Americans cruised through the final with a 6-2 win over Slovakia, Canada had to work hard to earn a chance to fight for the gold medal.

They would go 2-0 down against Finland in the first semi-finals. Goals from Mikko Rantanen and Erik Haula had put Finland in a commanding position.

Canada fought back and, with goals from Sam Reinhart and Shea Theodore, tied the game at 2-2 in the third period. Just when it looked like the game would head into overtime, they stuck again.

A power-play goal from Nathan MacKinnon with around 30 seconds remaining saw them emerge as 3-2 winners.

As the USA and Canada prepare to lock horns again, Brady Tkachuk is eyeing redemption for his country after that heartbreaking loss last year.

I know how I felt after (4 Nations) and it’s something I don’t want to feel again… Got a shot at our childhood dream and something everyone’s been looking forward to for as long as they can remember.

Brady Tkachuk told the reporters after Team USA’s win

The USA are eyeing their first Olympic gold medal in men’s ice hockey since 1980. Since that triumph 46 years ago, they have lost twice in the gold medal match against Canada.

Tkachuk’s father, Keith Tkachuk, was part of the team that lost in 2002 at Salt Lake City. In 2010, Canada’s current captain, Sidney Crosby, scored the golden goal in overtime to win the gold for his country and break the American hearts. Tkachuk and his team would be hoping to end this barren run on Sunday.

The USA-Canada hockey rivalry will have another chapter on Sunday, when the two nations meet in the Olympic gold medal game. Ahead of this matchup, Brady Tkachuk’s brother, Matthew Tkachuk, hailed this rivalry and called it the “pinnacle” of ice hockey.

Given the history of the two countries, the stakes are always a bit high when they collide against each other in sports. With hockey being the national sport of Canada, bragging rights are always up for grabs when they take on the United States.

While speaking with the reporters in the press conference, Tkachuk expressed that everyone in the U.S. and Canada will switch on the TV when they take to the field on Sunday.

It’s best on best. It’s what every American and Canadian grows up watching, grows up caring about. This is the pinnacle of the sport. This is as good as it gets and a rivalry that’s as good as it gets, so there will be not one TV without this game on in the United States and Canada, and that should get you pretty fired up.

Matthew Tkachuk told the reporters

In 5 games, Tkachuk has 6 points (6 assists). Meanwhile, his brother Brady Tkachuk has 5 points (3 goals and 2 assists). Only Jack Eichel, Auston Matthews and the Hughes brothers, Jack and Quinn Hughes, have more points than them for the Americans in these games.

The U.S. are hoping to go 2-0 against Canada in ice hockey during these Olympics. On Thursday, the women’s ice hockey event saw the USA clinch gold against Canada following an overtime winner from Megan Keller.

This saw them claim their 3rd Olympic gold medal in women’s ice hockey. The Tkachuk brothers will be aiming to match the result of the women’s team and take down Canada in one of the most highly anticipated game on Sunday.
