The Association of Boxing Commission has taken some solid steps and tried to make a few changes in order to ensure fairness in the sport. At the ABC conference on Wednesday, some of these rules are addressed and decisions were made.

A new rule states that fighters who will suffer an eye poke during the fight will be given five minutes to recover. Previously, this was only for accidental groin strikes but now it’s being considered during an eye poke.

Eye poking is illegal in MMA however, with the design of the MMA gloves there are many occasions that eye pokes have happened accidentally. Now with the new rule, fighters can ask the referee to pause the fight for five minutes initially and the vision is back to normal.

Another rule that the ABC finalized was that the fighters can now wear neoprene sleeves on their knees and ankles. But the color of these sleeves is limited to only black and white depending on the corner they are fighting. On top of that, these neoprene sleeves are not allowed to be grabbed by the opponents to get a hold of the fighters and gain an advantage.

These new rules are proposed at the correct time as the cases of eye pokes were rising a lot. Similarly, the use of neoprene sleeves can also give a lot of medical and ta tactical support to the fighters.
