Since returning from her quad injury, Caitlin Clark has helped her Indiana Fever win two straight games. She is the offensive engine of her team, and hence, everything runs through her. Without her in the lineup, the Fever team was visibly struggling to play the right way.

In her first game back, she stormed to a triple-double and led her Fever to break defending champion New York Liberty’s 10-game winning streak. That performance had the basketball world in awe, as they could not believe the performance she delivered in her first game back from injury.

The second game was also a win, but it was marred by a couple of scuffles as Clark battled her college rival, Jacy Sheldon. Nevertheless, the Fever were happy they had the momentum with them as they looked to continue with it on the road.

Their first Western Conference road game of the season was against the Golden State Valkyries. As an expansion franchise, they have exceeded expectations by winning 5 out of their 11 games so far. However, Fever fans were confident Caitlin Clark and her teammates had enough to win.

The game was surprisingly close from the start. Early in the 4th quarter, the Valkyries started piling on their defensive pressure. On one play, the Fever’s superstar guard tried to step back for a three. However, a whistle blew, and she was called for a travel.

Golden State Warriors star Brandin Podziemski, sitting close to this incident, jumped out of his seat and trolled the Fever star for her travel. Clark did not have an answer, knowing she was caught in the act, and smiled.

Caitlin Clark had a miserable night shooting from three

Even without the travel call, Caitlin Clark missed the three-point shot. It was one of those nights when the 23-year-old could not get it going from long range. She missed all of her seven three-point shots in the 88-77 loss.

At one point, the lack of threes held her to single digits. Thankfully for her, some late game free throws helped her get over the double-digit hump. She did send out 9 assists and grabbed 7 rebounds, but her no-show scoring was one of the primary reasons for this embarrassing loss.

The Indiana Fever are supposed to be title contenders. Even if it is early days for this retooled squad, except for Natasha Howard, the other four starters were part of their stellar run to the playoffs last season.

Without Clark doing her bit and the team struggling to shoot from three, they could not hold on to their slender lead. Then, when the Golden State Valkyries took the lead in the fourth quarter, the Fever could not stop the deficit from increasing. It seemed as if Clark and her teammates were exhausted.

Caitlin Clark has high praise for Valkyries fans

This was Caitlin Clark’s first-ever visit to San Francisco. She has admired how Stephen Curry has made Chase Center into one of the best arenas for basketball fans, but at the same time understood that those fans were not just there for the Warriors.

I thought it was great. The crowd was into it. They were loud. Yeah, you’ve got to give them a lot of credit, a really fun place to play. I also am going to look forward to coming back as well.

Caitlin Clark said to Ben Ross, Kron4 News

After the game, she also praised the Golden State fans for cheering their Valkyries with such intensity. The loud crowd inside Chase Center was similar to what she experiences inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse, but she admitted those Valkyries fans made playing there even more special.
