As the San Francisco 49ers prepare to launch a battle to dethrone the Seattle Seahawks and take the NFC conference seed for themselves, their contract drama with their almost-former wide receiver, Brandon Aiyuk, has taken a turn for the worse. The wide receiver hasn’t been on the field since sustaining an injury against the Kansas City Chiefs last season in Week 7.

The Niners have all but cut the player from the roster. He’s designated as “left squad” on the reserve list ahead of the Week 16 MNF against the Indianapolis Colts. Amid the same, Aiyuk has been quite reckless with his actions off the field. Recently, he posted a video on his YouTube channel that has alarmed fans about how Aiyuk has taken the injury and how the extended time off the field has affected him.

In the video, the WR is seen driving his Cadillac CT5-V along the Tasman Drive. The legal speed limit posted at Tasman Drive, also houses the Niners’ Levi’s Stadium on one side, is 40 miles per hour. Aiyuk reached upto a speed of 104 miles per hour, which is at least 2.5 times faster than the approved limit.

The footage has raised increasing concerns regarding Aiyuk’s well-being. Grant Cohn, a 49ers beat writer for Sports Illustrated, publicly urged either the organization or Aiyuk’s agent to check on the receiver, noting that the circumstances of the situation appear highly unusual.

Cohn also pointed out Aiyuk’s other video. Two days ago, Aiyuk had also shared a video of himself dancing inside a Jamba Juice, captioned, “When the CTE kicks in.”

Brandon Aiyuk’s WR Specialist Coach thinks Aiyuk will regret his actions

Brandon Aiyuk’s turbulent year with the San Francisco 49ers may end with lasting regret, at least in the eyes of someone who knows him well.

Speaking on Willard & Dibs, former NFL wide receiver and Aiyuk’s personal coach, T. J. Houshmandzadeh, did not mince words. He questioned how Aiyuk handled his contract standoff and the decisions that followed.

Houshmandzadeh explained that Aiyuk fought hard to raise the 49ers’ offer from $28 million per year to $30 million. He eventually got what he wanted. What followed, however, made little sense to his coach. According to Houshmandzadeh, Aiyuk then walked away from millions by missing meetings and not fully committing to rehab.

They offered you $28 [million per year]. You didn’t want $28 [million per year]. You wanted $30 [million per year], and you would not sign until you received it. You get it, and now you let it go because you don’t want to show up to meetings. You don’t want to go to your rehab. I’ll tell you one thing, he’s gonna get to my age, and he’s going to regret that.

T. J. Houshmandzadeh said

Houshmandzadeh feels that money lost at this stage of a career is almost impossible to recover. He believed that Aiyuk would look back years from now and wish he had handled things differently. In his view, talent alone does not justify such financial risk, especially for teams deciding whether to invest heavily again.

In addition to the financial aspect, the coach believed that the wide receiver had a great team to grow. Houshmandzadeh called it one of the best environments in the league, led by elite play-calling and a stable offensive system. Walking away from that, he suggested, only adds to the missed opportunity.

Houshmandzadeh also noted that while he gives advice to every player he coaches, not everyone is willing to listen or adjust. In Aiyuk’s case, he believes the regret will be unavoidable.
