After a season of glory and dominance in the NFC, the San Francisco 49ers are all set to score triumph over the ultimate trophy of the Super Bowl in 2024– starting with the organized team activities this week. However, it appears one of their best player and a key contributor to their journey to the Super Bowl last season, Brandon Aiyuk won’t be joining them.

This offseason, one major question that the 49ers have repeatedly asked about is star wide receiver Aiyuk’s long-term extension. The wideout himself expressed his displeasure with the franchise following the Super Bowl loss and hinted at a potential departure.

While the 49ers have actively shown a willingness to offer a long-term deal satisfactory to Aiyuk’s demand, it appears no such deal is actually in process. This led the star receiver to take the bold step and regress himself from the team’s offseason program, as he awaits the lucrative contract.

Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports reported that Aiyuk along with Jauan Jennings did not report to the 49ers’ OTA on Tuesday. While the former awaits the extension, the latter is yet to sign his restricted free-agent tender.

Moreover, despite an unresolved contract situation for a couple of months now, Aiyuk does not wish to play elsewhere, which is also the reason why he hasn’t made a trade request. Both of the parties continue to contract talk and until the receiver signs the paper, it will remain a hot topic of discussion.

49ers coach Kyle Shanahan unfazed by Brandon Aiyuk’s absence in OTAs

With the visible absence of Aiyuk from the Niners’ OTAs on Tuesday, head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked about him and the others not participating in the voluntary sessions. And he replied with an unfazed expression as he knew this was anything new in Santa Clara.

[I feel the] same as I do about all these guys that aren't here. I mean, I wish they were here, but it's something that's part of the business. Anytime it's the business part, you try to respect it, stay out of it as much as possible. I look forward to the days when we just focus on football.
Kyle Shanahan told the reporters

Aiyuk and Jennings aren’t the only ones to do so, as previously all four lucrative deals signed by Niners with star players such as George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, Fred Warner, and Nick Bosa in the last four offseason, had extended to the training camps.
