Brandon Aiyuk had his most successful season as a wide receiver last year. Catching for a career-high 1342 yards, it helped him make the second-team All-Pro. That success has helped him seek a massive payday, which is yet to materialize, as the San Francisco 49ers are playing hardball so far. But that did not stop the 4th year receiver from lauding quarterback Brock Purdy, who helped him get to this situation.
He was a guest on the Pivot Podcast. When host Ryan Clark asked him about his opinion on Brock Purdy in the midst of all the criticism he is facing, the All-Pro receiver didn’t hesitate in giving his flowers to his current QB.
The guys can feel his confidence, feel his energy, they can feel the preparation, you can feel it’s real and the talent is real. I can’t say enough about that dude. He’s nice.Brandon Aiyuk said
For Aiyuk to laud his quarterback, despite having his mind in the midst of all the noise, is impressive. He knows that Brock Purdy has been on the receiving end of a lot of criticism.
However, for Brandon Aiyuk, Purdy is naturally the best quarterback he has had to date. As in, if you count out schemes and plays, Mr. Irrelevant helped Aiyuk make the 2nd team All-Pro. Purdy’s short to intermediate throws helped the former Arizona State star keep racking up the yards on their way to the Super Bowl.
On the back of all those performances, he is now set to negotiate for a major pay raise. A raise that he expects to be close to what the current leaders are getting in their bank accounts.
Brandon Aiyuk’s skills make him a must-have for 49ers
There are mainly two stereotypical wide receivers. One are the big-bodied receivers who are excellent at moving the chains due to their catch radius and ability to physically win the battle and separate. Then there are the agile and shifty ones, who are mostly used in slot formations. But also use their speed on post and flag routes to take the top off the coverage.

Brandon Aiyuk is a mix of both. Well, he is not necessarily shifty and agile, but the way he uses his physical tools is what makes him special. He can create separation from shifty and fast cornerbacks in the first and second levels and can also take on bigger and faster corners on deeper routes. This helps the San Francisco 49ers move the ball down the field at a faster rate than the opposition.
Over the past year, head coach Kyle Shanahan used this scheme more and more and both Aiyuk and Deebo Samuel excelled along with Brock Purdy. Therefore, if the San Francisco 49ers have Super Bowl ambitions, they need to tie down Brandon Aiyuk as soon as possible.
