It appears Brandon Aiyuk is ensuring that the San Francisco 49ers are aware of his other options. That is to say, if they don’t offer him a deserving extension as he seeks, he would waste no time in joining the one who does.

Amidst the trade rumors to the Washington Commanders courtesy of his friendship with their rookie Jayden Daniels, the 49ers’ wide receiver shared a cryptic social media post possibly hinting at a future destination. He shared an image of the Commanders’ practice film on TikTok.

As obscure as it may seem, it’s certainly not surprising, since the receiver had already acknowledged the Commanders as his likely destination after the Niners a couple of weeks ago, during his appearance on The Pivot Podcast. This is why, having Aiyuk share Washington’s practice film while sitting out the offseason program and training camp with the 49ers until his contract situation is resolved, is a hint for a move.

Contrary to Aiyuk’s desire to remain with the Niners, his post, which he possibly received from his good friend and former Arizona State teammate, Daniels, the receiver appears to be looking forward to wearing a burgundy uniform. However, the Niners have been reluctant to explore the trade option, even though he briefly discussed it with Washington.

Besides the Commanders, some analysts also believe the Pittsburgh Steelers will be interested once Aiyuk is available as they are searching for a top wideout to join the team.

Brandon Aiyuk’s absence from 49ers offseason fuels uncertainty

The All-Pro wideout knows his worth and, based on many of his interviews and press conferences, he ain’t settling for anything less. Fans seemed to have made peace with the possibility that Aiyuk might not play for the Niners in 2024, even though he still has one year left in his contract. But given how he has been missing the offseason program and is likely to miss the training camp and preseason, nothing can be said for sure.

Amidst the whole situation, if there’s anyone who has complete faith in seeing Aiyuk playing for the Niners in 2024 is the NFL insider Adam Schefter. He previously stated that whether Aiyuk will receive his contract this year or the franchise will trade him are two completely different questions.

Aiyuk was a key contributor to the Niners’ run for the Super Bowl, even more than No. 1 receiver Deebo Samuel. And if it wasn’t for the overtime blunder, they might have actually succeeded in that. Now, as they are aiming for the trophy again after learning from their mistakes, it would be foolish to lose an offensive weapon, such as Aiyuk.
