Brandon Aubrey is human after all. The Dallas Cowboys kicker established himself as one of the top field goal specialists since entering the NFL last year.

Time and again, the Cowboys relied on the former soccer player to bail them out of a sticky situation. For once, he failed to come through with flying colors.

Deep into the fourth quarter at MetLife Stadium against the New York Giants on Thursday, Aubrey was handed a golden opportunity to more or less secure the game for the Cowboys with just 30 seconds of regulation time left on the clock. The Cowboys were leading 20-15, and the field goal was set at 51 yards, the sweet zone for the all-pro kicker.

There wasn’t much wind power on the night. After Brandon Aubrey kicked the ball, it swung wide right of the goalpost, shocking everyone, including the announcers.

Football fans shocked after the most accurate kicker, Brandon Aubrey, missed a field goal from 50+ yards

A shadow of silence veiled over the Cowboys fans inside the stadium. It wasn’t something they were not used to seeing because the 29-year-olds had scored 16 consecutive 50-yard field goals prior to the miss.

Social media went crazy because the missed FG meant the Giants still had the chance to force win the game by 1 point if they scored a late touchdown.

It shocked the fans even more because Aubrey in the 3rd quarter scored one from 60 yards on 4th & 11.

There were still 15 seconds left for the Giants. Daniel Jones, who threw 29/40 for 281 yards on the night, attempted a Hail Mary inside the Cowboys box. The Giants event sent additional wide receivers to finish the job, but Jones’ pass was picked off by Amani Oruwariye.

The Brandon Aubrey miss did not prove to be fatal in the end. He finished the game with 2/3 (66.3% completion rate), adding 8 points to the total.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott threw 22/27 for 221 yards and 2 touchdowns, CeeDee Lamb caught 7 passes for 98 yards and 1 touchdown while running back Rico Dowdle ran the ball 11 times for 46 yards.

As for the Giants, their kicker Greg Joseph scored all of his 5 tries, adding 15 points. Rookie receiver Malik Nabers was once again the star with 12 catches for 115 yards.

With that win, the Cowboys are now 2-2, and the loss means the Giants are 1-3. Up next, the Cowboys will travel to the Steel City to face the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Giants play against the Seattle Seahawks.
