Stefon Diggs ended up forcing his way out of the Buffalo Bills. Despite the wide receiver’s attempt to play the victim card and make fans perceive that he is stuck in a helpless situation, the Bills decided that it was time for the team to move on from him. He was traded to the Houston Texans earlier during free agency- a move that had Bills fans concerned because he was their best wideout.

However, Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane in his latest sit-down with Tyler Dunne, opened up about trading Diggs and the future of the team. Beane admitted Diggs was a big part of Bills’ success but his trade ‘made sense’ for both parties.

I would say with Stef, we had a lot of great times and he's a big part of our success. Four years, we win four divisions. And ultimately, we talked about transition. We just decided at this time for us and for him, where we were in the transition, it all made sense. And we got some young guys that we wanted to step up in various eyes.
Brandon Beane said.

Realistically, Diggs did not live up to the hype or step up to the plate as the Bills had hoped that he would.

Despite Stefon Diggs being a talented and elite wide receiver in the NFL, he never was able to live up to his full potential on the Bills. During the regular season, he thrived but when the playoffs rolled around, the perception was that he could have always done more. The Bills had enough of this and understood that it was time to move in a different direction.

Brandon Beane dubs the split between Stefon Diggs and the Bills as an amicable situation

The team’s general manager opted for a diplomatic approach and believes he did what was best for the team. He said there are no ill feelings towards Diggs and also mentioned that the Bills have young receivers to fill Diggs’ shoes.

The timing was probably it. With where we were with the transition, where we were heading and, again, he's still a really good player. Zero ill will towards Stef. Thankful for all he brought to our team, but ultimately we're still trying to get over the top. I know he's trying to get over the top and you're constantly looking at the tweaks you need to make.
Brandon Beane added.

It was evident that the connection between Josh Allen and Diggs failed to work when the playoffs surfaced.

To general manager Brandon Beane, it was merely a professional decision. Since being traded to the Bills in 2020, the team has faltered at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs repeatedly. It was a hump which they never managed to get past, was it the fault of Diggs? Or was it just mere fate? Irrespective of that, the inferred conclusion was that Stefon Diggs is not the answer.

It was surprising to see the Bills trade Diggs for virtually, a bag of cookies. But from a general manager’s point of view, it was the most sensible decision. The wide receiver did not help the team to reach where they intended to. Diggs added to the off-season drama year-over-year by playing the social media game wherein he used to like posts on X (formerly known as Twitter) or post cryptic messages of his own that sent the message out that he was not happy with his situation.
