Brandon Ingram is the Quiet Alpha for New Orleans Pelicans
Brandon Ingram
Brandon Ingram has led the New Orleans Pelicans as an example in the first 3 games of the 2020-21 season. But he is not a usual leader as one may suspect. Ingram is known to be a calm and composed, averaging more than 26 points in these 3 games, Ingram has been nothing but exceptional for his franchise.
With the narrative always being with Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram has never caught the spotlight immensely. But after the latter matched Luka Doncic’s exceptional NBA Record of scoring 80 points, 20 rebounds and 20 assists in the first 3 games for a team. Ingram seems to be the only name on many fanatic’s mind.
“That’s not my personality” Brandon Ingram
On his recent podcast, JJ Redick asked Ingram if his quiet nature is part of his personality.
Ingram replied, “It’s definitely not my personality. It’s kinda intentional. I think it comes from my childhood, just seeing a lot of things around and just having an awareness at all times. When I present myself, I want people to know exactly me instead of like other stuff that’s promoting. I like to get to know people a little bit before I listen.”
When the Lakers wanted to acquire Anthony Davis, Brandon Ingram was sacrificed by the franchise. His first appearance in the Pelicans made him a valuable asset at his new franchise. Ingram averaged more than 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. But with Jrue Holiday also departing from the Pelicans, the leadership responsibility fell upon the young shoulders of Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram.
Having said that, with such an impressive performance by Ingram in the initial stages of the new season, his main objective should be to get the Pelicans to the playoffs after missing last season. Given that they have got experience of Steven Adams also in their roster this year, Ingram can play more freely, which he has been doing so far.
