“Bravo!” Billie Jean King congratulates Naomi Osaka and LeBron James on being named ‘Female and Male Athletes of the Year’

Billie Jean King, a 12-time Grand Slam champion, has congratulated the World No.3, Naomi Osaka, who has just been declared as the ‘Female Athlete of the Year’ by The Associated Press. In addition, King commended LeBron James, on being named the ‘Male Athlete of the Year’ by The A.P.
Osaka is a three-time Grand Slam champion, whose most recent victory at the Majors came about at the U.S Open. In combination with displaying the highest quality of tennis, the 23-year-old raised awareness for the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement.
A continual spokesperson for various issues surrounding equality in sports herself, King wrote a message for Naomi and James.

The Former World No.1, Osaka, wore seven masks which were inscribed with names of people who had lost their lives on account of the ongoing racial injustice. These names were of Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain, Ahmaud Arbery, Trayvon Martin, George Floyd, Philando Castile and Tamir Rice.
The Los Angeles Laker, James, also used his platform to speak out on political and social issues. He helped form “More Than a Vote.” This a group dedicated to mobilising African-American voters and fighting voter suppression.
Moreover, the announcement of the honour being bestowed upon the two was commended by the revolutionary, Billie Jean King.
On Twitter, she wrote, “Congratulations to Naomi Osaka, who has been named the A.P Female Athlete of the year. Congratulations also to Lebron James, named, the Male Athlete of the Year. Both are champions on their respective courts, and both use their platforms to advocate for social justice. Bravo!”
Next up, Naomi will seen in action at the Australian Open 2021, which is scheduled to start from 8 February.
