Things unfolded violently at EverBank Stadium as the Georgia Bulldogs beat the Florida Gators 34-20. Footage has surfaced of two police officers beating fans to pulp in the stands. One of them was being wrestled to the ground by an officer, whereas the other took repeated blows to his back.

The reason for the altercation is unknown. There is nothing concrete to indicate that the fans were involved in some form of mischief, which is why such a violent response from law enforcement officials is shocking, to say the least.

The first police officer in the video wrestles and begins to punch the fan on the stairs of the stadium. The camera then pans over to the second officer and this man was putting his complete strength in beating a relatively older person who did not seem to be in a position to cause harm to him.

The fan was attempting to protect himself and the officer can be seen delivering repeated blows to the back of his head and his back. In the midst of all this, a female fan can be heard yelling “Why are you punching him?” in a distraught tone.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office has issued a statement after the incident

The 15-second video has raised a lot of questions. Why were the police resorting to such violent measures? What did the fans do? Was the force displayed by the police appropriate in this situation or excessive? There is no clarity on what went down.

The fans who were beaten in the video were not arrested. It remains unclear if they required medical attention after being hit. The Georgia Bulldogs beat the Florida Gators 34-20 to go 7-1 for the season.

The stadium was filled with fans as the two teams were two of the biggest rivals in college football. The entire week was filled with anticipation among fans, who were seen tailgating days in advance to get a chance to grab the best seats in the building.
