Throughout the history of the sport, main event wrestlers have always held more power behind the scenes in comparison to their co-workers. Whether it be Hulk Hogan or Roman Reigns, the top stars have played major roles in a lot of decisions. Therefore, many have come to realize that it is better not to aggravate them. Unfortunately, Bray Wyatt found out about that the hard way when he allegedly crossed paths with John Cena.
While speaking with Chris Van Vliet, former WWE star Baron Corbin recalled a backstage story that he had heard during his stay in the promotion. During his initial days as Husky Harris, Wyatt had mistakenly poked Cena in the eye in a match. This supposedly ticked off not only The Cenation Leader, but also then-chairman Vince McMahon. As a result, WWE sent Wyatt back to its developmental brand, NXT, as a form of punishment.
Although it has been a backstage rumor, Corbin believes that it is true. The Lone Wolf then recalled a similar experience that he shared with the sixteen-time world champion inside the ring. Earlier in his main roster career, Corbin had poked Cena in the eye, which prompted the latter to curse out loudly. However, the former United States Champion escaped suffering the wrath of the legend backstage.
As for Bray Wyatt, the move back to NXT turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It was then that The Eater of Worlds character was formed, illuminating the creative mind of Wyatt. Interestingly, the former WWE Champion ended up facing John Cena at WrestleMania twice. Unfortunately, his career was cut short when he passed away due to a heart attack in August 2023.
John Cena odds-on-favorite to win the 2024 Royal Rumble match
On the Raw Netflix premiere, John Cena kickstarted his retirement tour with a huge announcement. Cena declared his intentions to win a record-breaking seventeenth world title. In order to do so, Cena vowed to win the Royal Rumble match and make history in the main event of WrestleMania.
However, Cena will face a ginormous challenge at the February 1 PLE. Since his announcement, several superstars, including Roman Reigns, CM Punk, Drew McIntyre, and Seth Rollins, have also declared for the 30-man match.
In addition to that, The Franchise Player is in the midst of a six-year-long losing streak in WWE. Despite that, Cena remains the fans and betters’ odds-on favorite to win the Royal Rumble. Having said that, it will be interesting to see if the legend can live up to expectations in a week.
