Brazil are out of the 2024 Copa America! In a shocking turn of events, one of the tournament favorites at the 2024 Copa America were knocked out on penalties by a resolute Uruguay side. A gritty encounter over 90 minutes was unable to separate the two sides as Brazil and Uruguay needed penalties to separate them. Amidst all the criticism and poor form, Brazil’s elimination couldn’t have come at a worse moment.

Brazil have been largely underwhelming at this year’s Copa America, only managing to win a single game at the tournament. Head coach Dorival Junior was at a loss for words following the game as Uruguay triumphed 4-2 on penalties. Allegiant Stadium was witness to one of the biggest upsets of the year as the 2021 finalists were sent home early.

Real Madrid man Eder Militao and Douglas Luiz failed to score from the spot. The former had his penalty saved by Sergio Rochet while Luiz’s shot hit the upright and went wide.

PSG man Manuel Ugarte finished off Brazil’s hopes of qualifying as he sent Alisson Becker the wrong way. Uruguay will take on Colombia in the semi-final on the 10th of July.

Fans react to Brazil’s underwhelming performance at the 2024 Copa America

Fans recalled Ronaldinho Gaucho‘s ‘PR stunt’ as Brazil crashed out of the 2024 Copa America. The Selecao were knocked out 4-2 on penalties as fans admitted that Ronaldinho was ‘right’ not to watch any Brazil game at the tournament. Fans couldn’t believe that a country as stacked as Brazil fell off so hard from the top. Rival fans called them a disgrace for not living up to their billing in recent years.

Supporters laughed at a picture of Dorival Junior scratching his head away from the team huddle ahead of the penalty shootout. Fans blamed the manager for sending Eder Militao- a man who has ‘never’ taken a penalty kick- as the first kick taker for Brazil. Many were confident that Neymar Jr. wouldn’t have let this happen and that fans should realize how much better Brazil operates with the Al-Hilal man.

Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo Goes and Endrick were criticized for their mediocre performance against Uruguay and for not stepping up at crucial moments. After an abysmal display in their first three games, fans felt that it was fitting that Uruguay sent them home. Endrick in particular was laughed at for only completing a single pass in 90 minutes. Fans couldn’t help but think what difference Neymar would’ve brought to the squad.
