Brazil’s head coach, Dorival Junior has made an extremely bold statement that has left the world in utter incredulity. Dorival has underlined the fact that his team is going to be a part of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. The manager made this bold claim in the pre-match presser ahead of their clash against Paraguay, a battle that will leave them humbled again.

It has been a tough outing for Brazil in recent times. Ever since their elimination from the latest iteration of the Copa America, the Seleccao has struggled to maintain a fine brand of consistency. Amidst the cross-currents of mediocrity and too many questions which are being asked, the Brazilian preceptor was extremely bullish in terms of his team making the cut for the summit clash of the upcoming quadrennial extravaganza. The last time Brazil played a World Cup final was back in 2002 against Germany, which they did go on to win.

We will be in the 2026 World Cup final. We will be finalists. You can film me while I’m saying this. I have no doubts. We will be there.
Dorival Junior said in the pre-match presser of their game against Paraguay.

Dorival Junior took over the reins of the side back in January 2024. After Brazil’s shambolic outing in the 2022 World Cup, Ramon Menezes stepped up as the stopgap manager of the side. Fernando Diniz was the next one in line who took over the responsibility in July 2023. The 62-year-old gaffer who formerly played for Palmeiras was handed over the job at the start of the year and his first assignment of Copa America didn’t go as planned as Brazil was knocked out of the tournament from the semi-finals after an unexpected defeat against Uruguay.

If the state of affairs for Brazil weren’t shambolic enough, their latest defeat at the hands of Paraguay in the ongoing World Cup Qualifiers left them with an even bitterer taste in their mouth. Riding high on the strike of Diego Gomez, Paraguay did do a fine job of keeping the Seleccao at bay and eventually walked away with the bragging rights.

With this defeat in the ongoing edition of the tournament, Brazil dropped down a step further to the fifth position with 10 points from eight matches.

They have managed to secure three wins and a draw so far while losing four of their games in the ongoing edition. To make matters worse, their star striker, Neymar Jr. may not return until November as he is still nursing his ACL injury.
