After a disappointing result on the opening matchday, Brazil finally managed to pick up a win at the 2024 Copa America. The men in yellow were held to a goalless draw against Costa Rica a few days back. However, Vinicius Jr. and co. did not let the last game’s result come in between their pursuit of a crucial win in Group D. The Selecao absolutely demolished an unsuspecting Paraguay four goals to one.

However, Brazil didn’t manage to do so without their own hiccups, starting with a penalty miss in the first half. Fans were at a loss for words when West Ham United man Lucas Paqueta failed to to score what would have been Brazil’s first goal at the tournament. However, the 26-year-old ended up completely missing the target, and as a result, was subject to loud boos and criticism from the crowd.

The incident occurred when Paqueta stepped up a second time for Brazil to take a penalty. He did not let the crowd get into his head this time around and comfortably dispatched his kick from twelve yards out.

Brazil pick up first win at 2024 Copa America

As the 2024 Copa America gets underway, players in the Brazilian national team will surely have started to feel the pressure. From Ronaldinho Gaucho to Ronaldo Nazario and many more, The Selecao has been subject to harsh criticism in recent days. It wasn’t long ago that Ronaldinho announced that he will not be supporting Brazil at the Copa America, nor watch any of their games and though it turned out to be a part of an ad campaign, many Brazil supporters agreed with his views.

However, Vinicius Jr. and his teammates did well to put an end to the chatter and kick off their campaign with a stunning victory. After Lucas Paqueta missed a golden chance from the spot to put his side into the lead, up stepped Vinicius to finish off a team move worthy of breaking down any defensive line. It didn’t take long for the second goal to arrive courtesy of Savinho.

The forward was gifted a golden chance by the opposition which he took with both hands wide open. Vinicius grabbed his second right before the close of the first half, as he poked the ball in from close range. Brazil’s fourth and final goal of the game came from the spot, as Paqueta redeemed himself with a cool and composed penalty. That being said, the best goal of the game was scored by their opposition, as Omar Alderete unleashed a screamer from far out. The game ended 4-1 to Brazil.
