Khamzat Chimaev had been calling out a plethora of opponents ever since he managed to destroy all of his first three opponents in the UFC. The UFC struggled to land him a fight, until they finally matched him with Brit Leon Edwards. Now, it looks like the MMA world has to wait a few more months, due to the fight being called off for December 19. However, it looks like the UFC is trying to re-book the fight as early as possible – probably the 1st quarter of next year.

Ariel Helwani, the famed ESPN MMA journalist took to Twitter to break the news.

“UFC is hoping to re-book the fight in early 2021” – Sources say

“Leon Edwards vs. Khamzat Chimaev isn’t happening on Dec. 19, per sources. Unfortunately, Edwards recently tested positive for COVID. UFC is hoping to re-book the fight in early 2021, sources say,” Ariel tweeted.

It will be interesting to see how Khamzat responds to this, as he had already been grumpy before the UFC somehow managed to book him against Leon Edwards. Khamzat is coming off a dominating victory over Gerald Meerschaert, and if the rescheduling of the fight is pushed for more than three months, ‘The Borz’ might probably even take on another opponent.

What do you think of this? Should Khamzat take on another opponent before taking on Leon Edwards?
