European Super League stands disbanded

The newly formed European Super League has soon become the newly finished Super League. A majority of the 12 European clubs, who had initially joined hands to form the league have now decided to exit the competition.

Florentino Perez’s dream project looks to have ended even before it could take off as the proposition lasted just 2 days from the day of announcement. Fans from around the world (especially Europe) have once again proved, that football is a game of passion and pride and not a game of financial powers.

A normalcy will return to European Football as the Super League saga ends

The European Super league was mainly formed to increase revenues of the clubs which according to the 12 founding members, the UEFA Champions League failed to do. The prize money of winning the Super league was said to be 3 times than that of winning the Champions League.

However, the cash rich league would have failed to carry the essence which the Champions League has been capable of providing for the last 100+ years. Manchester City and Chelsea had already brought up talks of exiting the cash-league rich amid heavy protests from fans.

The protests all began at Elland Road in Liverpool’s first game after the announcement as Leeds players brought out shirts in their pre-game training sessions. Petr Cech had to come out and plead in front of fans before Chelsea’s Premier League fixture when their arrival to Stamford Bridge got held because of the protests.

Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United are also looking to follow their fellow clubs and would soon announce their exit from the league. Manchester United and Juventus Presidents Ed Woodward and Andrea Agnelli have handed in their resignation after coming under heavy criticism from fans.

This would mean that football will remain the same from next season. The UEFA Champions and Europa Leagues would once again come to the fore as the Premier competition for clubs across Europe and provide opportunities to DESERVING clubs and not the RESERVED ones.
