The MLB Spring Training is drawing closer. In a few weeks time, pitchers and catchers will soon start reporting to training as preparations for the new season gets underway. There are still some stars like Jack Flaherty who are looking for a new club though. In the midst of this, Athletics star Brent Rooker shared a hilarious text regarding his future.
Flaherty was part of the Los Angeles Dodgers side who won the World Series in 2024. He started Game 5 of the series. Despite getting limited in the game, he and his team came back to win the game and took home the series 4-1.
After the end of the season, he become a free agent. Since then, he has exploring options regarding his future.
On Thursday, he came across Brent Rooker on social media. In a post on X, the MLB Network would release the lists of top-10 shortstops in the league.
Rooker would react to this and hilariously bring up the incident of Ichiro Suzuki not being a unanimous Hall of Fame. The Japanese international fell one vote short of claiming 100 percent of the votes. The Athletics star pointed out that he had never seen The Shredder, the tool that helps MLB Network rank players, and the person who did not vote for Suzuki in the same room.
Has anyone ever seen The Shredder and the guy who didn’t vote for Ichiro in the same room? https://t.co/vjDWyOGFU4

This lead to Flaherty complementing the tweet of Rooker. The A’s outfielder, who recently signed a huge contract extension with the team, thanked the pitcher for his words.
During this, he cheekily asked him to either join them or join soon National League team. He would also surprisingly tell others not to look up his career stats against Flaherty.
Thanks, Jack. Please sign with us or in the National League.

(No one look up my career splits off of him) https://t.co/BWJPQ2i1Nt
A fan would later do what Rooker did not want. The 30-year-old is 0-for-4 against Flaherty and has been walked once in his career. That is why he did not want people to look up that.
I specifically said not to do this https://t.co/HbNdOjkK69

Brent Rooker engages in light-hearted online exchange with Guardians pitcher
Brent Rooker has been highly active on social media. The Athletics star has often commented on several matters. On Thursday, he was also involved in a light-hearted exchange with a Cleveland Guardians pitcher.
A baseball account would ask him to break down his at-bats on social media. Rooker would claim that this was something that he did consider. However, he decided not to do it as pitchers might study that and use it against him.
Cleveland Guardians pitcher Tanner Bibee would urge him to do it.
Yeah dude you should do it 📝

The Guardians and the Athletics featured in seven games last year. They would take 6 games out of the 7 by outscoring them 43-26 in two series. The Guardians eventually finished with a 92-69 record and reached the ALCS. Meanwhile, the Athletics improved their record a bit from 2023 and finished 69-93.
