Brett Favre has lost face after it was revealed that he spent money from a welfare fund. Since then, The Mississippi Department of Human Services filed a lawsuit against the former Green Bay Packers quarterback along with others in 2022. He is still fighting to avoid having to pay a lot more money than he has already returned. But his case took a setback after the judge removed one of his attorneys.
The Associated Press revealed that Hinds County Circuit Judge Faye Peterson removed one of the attorneys, Daniel Koevary on Thursday. As he had violated rules for Mississippi civil court procedures by repeatedly demanding hearings. That too, for matters not related to the purvey of the court. The judge deemed that Keovary was attempting to create discord as the trial was still underway.
This is a setback for the former Super Bowl-winning quarterback as another attorney has to step in and learn every detail about the case. Brett Favre may not be facing any prison time. But he could be ordered to pay more than $700,000 to the Mississippi Department of Human Services. Therefore, he needs his attorneys to be at the top of their game.
As this lawsuit came about even though he returned the original $1.1 million he had spent from the welfare fund. The Mississippi department wants him to pay up the interest which they could have accrued in their accounts from the money he siphoned.
Brett Favre and scandals ruining his legacy
Brett Favre is one of the NFL’s greatest players. A Hall of Famer, the former Green Bay Packers quarterback has had a career which many others would dream of. 2nd round pick to a Super Bowl Champion and 3 straight MVP seasons. But all of that grandeur on the football field was before he retired. Since he finally hung up his cleats, his name has become synonymous with scandals.
The first was in 2010 when he was accused of allegedly sending inappropriate messages to former New York Jets gameday host Jenn Sterger. But those accusations could not be proved. But Sterger still maintains her stance. Then comes this lawsuit. When the likes of Pat McAfee and Shannon Sharpe called Favre out for his involvement in this scandal, he filed defamation lawsuits against them.
All in an attempt to save his legacy. The court has since tossed out those lawsuits. The now 54-year-old has to hope that the law firm he hired has competent attorneys ready to fight his lawsuit. If they cannot do it in time, Brett Favre could lose a lot of face despite being one of the best on the field.
