He's (Gautam Gambhir) done a terrific job every time he's had an opportunity. The Indian Premier League title with KKR is the best example. He's always been there, always at the top of his game. He finds a way to unite his players and graft his team together. He builds a solid structure. He has been a terrific player, and his aggression and winning attitude will help India. He has shone internationally as a player.

Gambhir has played two crucial knocks in big stages as a player. He scored a match winning 75 in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup in 2007 and a 97-run innings in the final of the ODI World Cup in 2011. However, it will be a stern test for the former KKR mentor to manage both the senior and the junior players in the Indian team.

Gambhir’s first big test will definitely be the Border-Gavaskar trophy in Australia at the end of the year, followed by the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and the ICC World Test Championship Final. He will be present with the Indian Team from the 3-game T20I series vs Sri Lanka.

Given how straightforward Gambhir has been in his career and being a part of coaching staff, there can be some strong decisions taken on the future of the senior players in the Indian team. The spotlight will definitely be on Gambhir on how he goes about his business as the Head Coach of the Men in Blue.
