New York Yankees executive Brian Cashman called out Houston Astros and their alleged cheating scandal during the ALCS games in 2017, 2019, and 2022. He furiously claimed that the team “cheated” them and took their opportunity to play in the World Series.

The Pinstripes failed to qualify for the World Series in 2009, and 2024 presented them with a brand-new chance at the big stage after avoiding play with the Astros this time around. In the Yanks vs. Astros faceoff, the former lost four times including the 2015 wild card game.

Cashman believes Astros sign stealing in 2017 game was the cause for the team not winning the ALCS, and possibly it also happened in 2019. Brian Cashman added that he absolutely hates the 15-year time gap which the team had to endure because of the unfair play.

It means a lot, and I hate the 15-year thing because it completely forgets and discounts that some other organizations cheated us when we were all the way in the end. If you knew what was going on, I don’t think they would have even been advancing during that time. I think we would have been advancing, so I hate that 15-year thing, because I don’t think it accurately reflects history.

Brian Cashman said per MLB Network

During his chat with Chris Russo, he said the 15-year drought does not “accurately reflects history” but he’s thankful to get another chance at the Fall Classic. He highly praised the NY Yankees for their relentless effort and outstanding performance which brought the World Series dream come true.

The only thing now left to do is to bring the Championship Cup back home and put the ring on to solemnize the moment. In 2024, the Houston Astros got eliminated in the wild card round by the Detroit Tigers in only two games.

MLB’s disciplinary action against Houston Astros for sign cheating

The Houston Astros‘ sign cheating incident first came to light in November 2019. Later it was known that they were using unfair tactics to steal pitching signs from opponents and relaying them to their players. The action was done through banging sounds at each at-bat. It was believed their actions continued from 2017-18, and probably even in 2019.

The New York Yankees were defeated in seven games in 2017, but they were unaware of the whole situation. Rightfully, Brian Cashman believes it cost them a chance at World Series which they had to wait for until now.

In a further detailed report, and a now-deleted social media post, former Astros hitter Evan Gattis admitted that he knew which pitch was coming from Yanks CC Sabathia during Game 7. Their antics continued even in the World Series, according to Gattis.

MLB handed down a 1-year suspension to then-team manager Jeff Luhnow and A.J. Hinch, while also fining them $5 million. Furthermore, they also suspended Astros bench coach Alex Cora for a season.

After many trials and triumphs, the NY Yankees have once again stood at the door of the World Series. They’ll now be facing against the Los Angeles Dodgers, one of their biggest rivals in MLB. The game will begin on Friday in a best-of-seven format.
